Drinking guava tea can assist with weight loss by preventing complex starches that are consumed from being converted into sugars. The transition of carbohydrates to usable compounds when being broken down in the liver is prevented, therefore assisting with weight loss. According to a research study published in the Journal of Nutrition in Gerontology and Geriatrics, flavonoids which include catechins from guava tea, can modestly reduce weight. The research study examined the clinical evidence for catechins for the treatment of obesity and explored the mechanisms of action as related to obesity.
